Repro: One can repro the issue without using work item forms. The only reproducable way is using a IE to "open" the document (wich is used implicitly by the work item form control). Opening the Word document using the Sharepoint Web Interface and clicking "Edit in Microsoft Word" also works perfectly! So basically my SharePoint and Office-Setup seems to be OK. Also the document is unlocked correctly after closing it in Word or after quitting Word. I did some more testing: - Opening the Word document using the same UNC-Path but simply putting it into "Start / Run" (Shellexecute) opens the document perfectly and saving changes is no problem. I applied the registry hack that is described there but - nothing changed. I did some KB research and found the article 870853 wich seems to go in the direction of the problem. I monitored the client side event logs and the server side event logs for messages - nothing in there. And this really looks like it has opened the document using the WebDAV-Redirector. Monitoring the Word-PRocess with ProcessEXplorer shows me that Word is using a file handle to a path like this: "\Device\Mup\tfs\sites\artiso_Usermanagement\Project Management\Specification Documents\94.docx". What I did until now: I tried to figure out whether Word might work on a local copy - but this is not the case. And: though Word has been closed the document is still locked on the sharepoint for the next 10 minutes. But: the changes are not being saved - at least they are not saved to the document on the server. ![]() Saving also seems to be no problem - at least a little progress bar informs me that the document is being saved and no error message pops up. The result is: The document opens just perfectly in Word. "\\tfs\sites\Project\.\Some.docx" Now I want to open and edit the document by double clicking on the link inside the work item control in visual studio. ![]() There is a link to this document in a work item using the "hyperlink" type pointing to the unc-path of the file, e.g. The problem is this: There is a word document (docx file) saved in a sharepoint document library.
